Dr. AKO-EGBE Louis
Dr. Ako-Egbe Louis is a General Practitioner with an MD degree obtained from the University of Buea. He obtained a Master of Science in Public Health – Health Systems Management and Policy from the Institute of Tropical Medicine Antwerp, Belgium. Louis is a Fellow and an Emerging Leader of tghe International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua).
He has over six years of experience in clinical medicine, hospital management and health district management. since five years under the Ministry of Public Health and has served as a health facility/system manager in many rural communities in Cameroon. Louis has served as the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Ekona Sub divisional hospital, the Messsondo Sub divisional hospital and now the District Medical Officer in the South West Region.
Louis has a keen interest in community healthcare especially in mitigating the barriers to quality health care faced by vulnerable populations and disadvantaged communities. He beliefs that affordable, quality (patient-centred, continuous, effective and integrated) and compassionate home-based care is a more practical approach to improve health care delivery in most of the rural communities in Cameroon. He also agrees with the thinking that Universal Health Coverage (UHC) can only be achieved via an effective mix of public and private providers.
ETONG FANNY BESSEM
Bessem holds a BSc in Economics from the University of Buea. She has over five years of experience in community development projects geared towards empowering vulnerable groups and improving health care delivery in communities. She has served with many local and international NGOs.
She is a United Nations volunteer and a Cameroon Women Scholars (CWS) alumni. She is pursuing an MBA in Project Management, and she is strongly driven by the conviction that sustainable health care delivery using contemporary health information technology, through skillful implementation of community health projects and compassionate health service delivery, is the sure way of ensuring Universal Health Coverage.
Dr. AWUNGAFAC George
Community Health Officer i/c Infectious Diseases
Dr. Awungafac is a Public Health Physician with passion in operational research, systems and programs evaluation. He holds an MD degree from the University of Buea and a Masters (MSc) in Public Health – Diseases Control (MPH-DC), from the Institute of Tropical Medicine, ITM, Antwerp Belgium. Partnership and collaboration with a well informed community is at the core of his mission. He has substantial experience and professional exposures in sub-Saharan Africa in the combat against HIV and other infectious diseases, among other duties as a clinician in his country.
Health Promotion and Capacity building Coordinator
Etambeh is a graduate with a BSc in Microbiology. She further obtained a MSc. Infectious Disease Control, combined with over 4 years of hospital laboratory practice as a laboratory scientist. With this exposure to the microbiology and infectious disease world, she beliefs that community efforts to enhance hygiene and healthy living are a more cost-effective means of fighting infectious diseases in Cameroon, and Africa as a whole. She is of the philosophy that more initiatives and resources should be spent on preventing infections than in treating them in hospitals.
Etambeh aspires to built a research career in finding out more effective, context-adapted and efficient methods of eliminating microbes from our environment and preventing infections. Microbes breed on cultural beliefs, practices and human behavior, and this is where we have to start fighting infections (‘Social antibiotics’).
Dr Noah Takah Fongwen
Director, International Diagnostic Centre (IDC)
He is a holder of an MD degree from the University of Buea, an MPH from the University of Glasgow. He is a Research Fellow at the International Diagnostic Centre of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, London, UK. He has a public health interest in Global Health Research, Diagnostics Research and Policy, Economic Evaluation of Public Health Interventions. He is also interested in Laboratory Quality Assurance and Quality Management Systems, Assessment of point of Carte technology and Emergency response to epidemics
