COMMUNITY OUTREACH AT THE BUEA CENTRAL PRISON
'A clean prison for healthy inmates' - Health promotion at the Buea Central Prison

Women Scholars (CWS) alumni, Noela Lyonga Foundation and the Health Promotion
For All (HPFA) Foundation carried out a joined community outreach activity at
the Buea Central prison. Featuring among
their activities was general cleaning of the prison premises, health education,
free medical consultations, screening and treatment.
At the end
of the medical session a total of over 55 inmates (30 adults, 25 minors) were
consulted, screened and treated for malaria and skin pathologies (like tinea,
scapies, eczema etc). Also all the beneficiaries were administered Mebendazole
500mg tablets against intestinal helminthes (worms).
Besides, education on puberty, sexuality and hygiene
was given to the 25 female minor inmates, with the youngest being 12 years old.
The day ended with a vote of thanks from the prison
authorities and a family photograph.
